Today was a good day. One of those days where you meet up with a friend, have a good chat and a bit of impromptu shopping :-)
Hubby has, however, threatened to hire a private detective to try and deter me from purchasing more haberdashery items as apparently he can "smell the joy" in the air when I've been shopping! I do suffer from "blogfluence" (blog influence) and have been known to drop whatever I am doing to rush out when the urge overcomes me for something new and lovely seen on a blog. It was suggested by a friend today that I measure how much ribbon I have altogether but its like getting The Daughter to admit she is tired and should go to bed.... its never going to happen ;-)
(major sleep issues with my 7 1/2 year old are proving very trying at the moment)
so I use ribbon in my crochet bunting to justify the constant purchases although I am deliberating over joining it with a crochet chain ? any opinions welcome!
Alex @ Pink Feather Paradise has sent me some lovely crochet she has done which I love! thank you Alex you are a very talented lady :-)
I have also had to purchase something I really didn't want to spend money on. The last 5 years I have spent convincing myself that squinting slightly, along with tipping my head back and looking down to focus on anything more than 5 feet away was completely normal. Therefore I gave in an booked an eye test and had it confirmed that I do need glasses for driving and distances :-( I am picking them up this week and although it was silly expensive, I figured that it was cheaper than all the Botox I was going to need from all the frowning I do.
Well, nearly bedtime, so another evening to convince The Daughter that:
No, Minnie Mouse is not an evil mouse that comes to life at night and eats her toes, No, having the bedroom door open less than 3 inches doesn't mean that she is "locked in her room" and that , yes, being asleep by 8pm is necessary even if Disney Channel is still on at midnight.......

Oh golly, children hey! Well, it looks like you have been very naughty (ie. good!) on the shopping front. I agree, specs are horrendously expensive and it's even worse that it's money spent on something you don't really want, ie. not a nice pair of shoes, for example. I wouldn't worry about the ribbon mountain as I bet there's someone out there with even more than you. Errm, that wouldn't be me, surely?! Yes, you definitely need to keep buying more... Enjoy Mistresses!

Looks like you had a lovely time ribbon queen.
I think glasses are rather fetching.
I love the flower garland, I think the ribbon adds a bit of shimmer, and there is nothing wrong with a little retail therapy...Joanne and I are off to an event on Friday in Exeter.... I am a little aprehensive of the urges I might suffer surrounded by all the lovely ribbbons and wool... I may have to take cash only and leave my wallet at home!lol
I hopefully won't need glasses for a little longer... but I haven't had an eye test since I was at school.... so who knows!
x Alex

Great post today!! It made me smile and chuckle. Great bits you have too!! x
You simply cannot have enough ribbon - and garlands and bunting makes it go sooooo quickly.
I love those crochet treats you've been sent - how lovley. x
ribbon is like fabric you can never have too much.
feel for on the sleep issue, I have a daughter who resists sleep, after all why should she sleep while we're still awake, and she's 10.... we've tried music, relaxation tapes, story tapes, the lot, now I just don't go and check on her to see if she's asleep yet, and then I don't get stressed about it as much - now getting her out of bed in the mornings - that is something I get stressed about..........
ps, we were recommended roman chamomile oil and lavender on a little pillow to help with the sleeping, that might have worked a bit, but she doesn't like it "too stinky"..........
I have a terrible problem with ribbon! I can't stop buying it!
I love ribbon and I love buttons too.
I have a friend in the US who fills me an envelope, with ribbon, every now and again and it is such a joy to receive as I am never too sure what I will get. I am expecting one filled with gingham ribbon of all colours any day now!! I should blog it!!
;-)
pretty treats!
i was scared that posters/toys/anything would come alive at night too..
i still have the nightmares lol (no joke!)
oooh and lovely ribbon!
I want all your new goodies, hope you dont's mind me asking where you got the ribbon and the totally wonderful sugar bowl and jug from!! You could be talking about Mason at bedtime although we did have a breakthrough last week when he manged to close the living room door on his own and open it thus resulting in him for the next 15 mins opening and closing it....bless! My fisrt day of feeling human since Sunday, my lovely boys passed the sick bug they had onto me, not all bad as it has helped me shift a few pound, now just waiting for the doctor to ring as Louie now has a sore throat and cough, never ending is it.....claire x
lovely purchases! Am sure it's in the rules that you can never have enough ribbon!
Good luck with the sleep issue. One thing I have heard, but haven't tried personally, is sending them up to their rooms at the agreed time, but then, provided they stay quiet, letting them get on with it. BUT, weekday or weekend, force them to get up at the normal time each morning, and stay awake all day. Then, if there are grumps during the day, discuss whether this could be connected to staying up late, whilst making it clear that they can continue to select their own sleep time. *Apparently* within a week or so, the issue falls away andthey learnto sort themselves out with a regular bedtime. Like I say, no personal experience, but might be worth a try (although not sure whether I'd manage with the next day grumpies though!)
Ooooh shopping! Now you've got specs you'll be able to appreciate it even more... Although there will be no denying that you didn't see the price... Love the ribbon & note book. My 8 year old has just announce that he needs to do his homework tonight - that the DS gone for a few days.....
Are you ready for book day tommorrow??
Love Lydia xx
I am off for new glasses next week , mine are that scratched its a wonder i can see !!

& the ribbons, & the specs, & the note books etc... its fab! G says my poor achey knees are self inflicted & that I'm not of an age to go bouncing up & down any more ... (but it was just the best night!)School trip? Lucky you! Lx
I've just eaten the bag of
Terry's chocolate orange mini eggs bought for cooking with, whilst having a stress... G is planning the new kitchen (or interfering with my plans...) & I have a job interview on Friday, so I'm trying to read loads of horrible documents for a presentation..
Gosh don't I sound grumpy? Take no notice of me... Hope you enjoy the book - its an easy read! Lx
I've never looked back since getting my glasses (sorry for the evil pun!!!), honestly once you get used to them you'll wonder how you ever did without.
Ribbon is always great. Can I be nosey and ask where you got the Caroline Zoob tape from? Was it off the website or in a shop? I really want some but the p&p is stupid so if I can find it in a shop so much the better!!!
By the way I am still giggling amount 'smell the joy' hee hee hee
Mel (who is rubbish at getting kids to sleep!) xxx
Can't wait to see what you do with all that ribbon. It sure is pretty! Sorry to hear about the sleep troubles, but on the bright side, they do grow up fast! Have a great day! Liz
Hiya Lesley,
The cushion was from last year and I havent seen them in there lately so don't plan a trip just for that lol! The spotty side is actually the back, the front is kind of quilted - I am sure there is a pic of the front on my blog somewhere...anyway its a mix of stripey, floral and spotty fabric at the front X
love your crochet bunting!! i still havent learnt :(

Hello hun...how you doing?
Eyes ok?
Looking forward to seeing you!xxx
I enjoyed this post. Ribbon hey ummm I am a bibs & bobs lover. I have been putting off getting my eyes checked but I know I have to.
Thanks for the advice hun, I am stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment and I really don't know which choice to make. The school has suspended the headteacher and there is some official woman (can't remember exactly what she is!) there three days a week keeping an eye on things but I just don't know. Feeling very depressed :(

Hi Lesley
So glad the little man is enjoying the book (you too, I hope).
Love his sherrif badge, can I ask where it came from? The colouring book looks fun too, I love colouring 'hehe'.
I'm a little excited (ok a lot) about receiving something in the post but I hope it's not because I sent the book, I certainly didn't expect anything in return.
Have a good weekend.
Hugs

Hi Lesley
(Squeak!!) Didn't need to share my cookies after all....
Hope you are ok - will get round to having a kitchen natter & tell you the tea towel plans soon! Once I have come back down to earth!
Have met your shopping friend Mrs Poppins in blog land!
Lx
I too suffer from that!
Lovely finds too. My hub has given up all hope of ever stopping me from buying more bits and bobs for my home.

Oh, and there's me think that my four year old daughter would grow out of her poor sleep habits......don't tell me there's more!
I love the crochet flowers on ribbon, really pretty. You can never, ever have too much crafty stuff. You just never know when you will need it!

Hiya!
How are you today?xxx
You would not believe how busy Dunelm was today and having a pushchair made it very hard to have a good luck around but normally I love it there.
I hope you enjoyed your child free weekend, lucky you xxx
Love the crochet bunting, ribbon purchase totally justified I think!
Indeed, the bucket is from good old Dunelm, it's fast becoming a favourite haunt, along with Homesense which is TK Maxx's home store, they sometimes have CK goodies tucked away - oh the joy!
Have a fab week, we have our race goers here for the whole week so yet again I will be a crap blogger!

Forgot to say that in order to encourage our wayward children towards their beds most nights we agree they can have a special night on their own once in a while. This involves the other two children going to bed as usual. Then the child who is having the special night gets to stay up later - we always pick an innocent tv programme to watch like Project Catwalk or something similar. We watch the tv in bed and then they are allowed to fall asleep next to me. They are put in their own bed, once asleep. In order to earn a special night they have to be really good at going to bed on other nights. None of mine like going to bed particularly but this does seem to work a treat, especially about sorting them getting up and down all the time. By the way in order to achieve a 7 pm bedtime I have to be upstairs with the children from no later than 6 pm - often 5.40 pm - relaxing bath, stories and reading etc. It takes soooooo long but I can't imagine life without that lovely bit of the day as much as it gives us headaches too!
Hope this helps.
Love Emma xxxxxx
