I thought it was because of the lighter mornings but they both have blackout linings on their roman blinds and then blackout linings on their curtains!! its like a tomb in each of their bedrooms and if I went to sleep in there I probably wouldn't wake up for days.
I love having children I really really do (mostly) but the one thing I crave is more sleep - I do get sleep obviously but BC (before children) I would surface around lunchtime at the weekend. I am thinking that I can get my own back when they are teenagers and I can go in their rooms at some ungodly hour saying "can we go downstairs yet, pllleeeassse can we ? ok in 3 minutes then? 5?" this is the sort of thing I find myself discussing with my 7 year old most mornings!!
It was, of course, an early start on Easter Sunday to see if the Easter Bunny had been - I did hear small boy discussing with his sister that he had seen the Easter Bunny and that he is blue and HE CAN TALK!!!! said with high pitched excitement of a 4 year old :-) that must have been some dream......
It is also the only day of the year (bar Christmas) when it is okay to eat chocolate for breakfast isn't it ? or I am in the bad mummy club? Not to worry, the sugar high should take the guilt away for me ;-)
By next week I will be worrying about the half stone I will have gained over the last few weeks with Easter cakes, long bank holiday weekend indulgences and yes, stealing the children's eggs but for now let us eat chocolate.....
The first week consisted of me painting one wall..... I can procrastinate until the cows come home and I have a list of projects a mile long much to my Hubby's fear as he watches me humming and haaing over paint charts. I finally bit the bullet but the stress and hassle of one wall has made me lay down my paint brush for the foreseeable future and hope that "fingerprints a la children" may become a new paint effect..... I like the new colour but you can hardly tell its been done although I had to of course say to Hubby how much I liked it and it had transformed the kitchen :-S

The second week of the holidays found us visiting the bright lights of London with two very overwhelmed children who had never seen anything like it before. We visited the Queen but she didn't invite us in for tea unfortunately but we made time for museums, shopping and a big trip to Hamleys! Mia also made me climb The Monument which is the largest freestanding stone column in the world at over 61 metres high - It consists of over 300 spiral stone narrow steps and about a quarter of the way up I needed oxygen and had no idea how I would get to the top. A 7 year old skipping(!) up the steps whilst talking (!) saying "come on mummy we cant give up now, you get a certificate when we have done it" spurred me on and it was worth it when we reached the top!
Note to self : must do some exercise to avoid turning unattractive shade of blue when exerting oneself.
I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday and I will be glad to get back into a routine on Monday. I've not been around much in blogland but am looking forward to catching up next week :-)
We managed a slight detour to the Cath Kidston outlet at Bicester on the way back from London so I have added some new fabric to my little collection and will do a "show and tell" in my next blogpost :-)
Happy weekend , Lx

Morning Lesley - just! I haven't just got up, sorry I know what it is like with children, I can do most things, but sleep deprivation most definitly not.
Chocolate 'is' good for you (I keep telling myself) so for breakfast I think thats ok especially on Easter morning and Christmas, of course.
Have a lovely weekend and enjoy your painting.
take care,
Nina x

Naughty Queen not inviting you to tea! Pah!
Early mornings and me do not work well even if I have been doing the early start at work for two years.
I am going to die from a lack of sleep in a fe month aren't I?
Get them back when they are teenagers, my Mother certainly did - the cow. ;)
What a great hols you have had!! London sounded great, lol at climbing the tower, I would be exactly the same, make me realise how unfit I am!!

Oh no, you have my sympathies for the early starts, mine went through phases of being up about 4am for weeks on end and it was a killer. My tip is put on a DVD and have a kip on the sofa!!! Naughty mummy ;)
Your kitchen looks gorgeous to me!
I would never have survived 300 steps so I take my hat off to you!
Have a great rest-of-weekend

Hello hun, I got the text message.....catch up soon!xxxx
Ah, yes, early mornings. Can someone explain to me how I have to wake my children every morning for school, yet on the first day of the holidays they decide 6.30 is getting up time?
And everyone knows chocolate is the breakfast of champions ;-)
Wow, decorating over the holidays! you are a much braver than me... I see no problem about chocolate... apart from the weight gain and the depression that follows for having eaten it.... however I would never consider throwing up... I have broad shoulders I can handle the guilt... just hope my heart can keep pumping for a bit longer! lol
I am very proud of you going up all those steps... if it was too narrow my chocolate enhanced arse wouldn't have fitted anyway!
Look forward to seeing your new additions to your stash... and is it the way you have taken your kitchen photo or do you really have ceiling that high?
X Alex
Hello. I must say that I think the wall in your kitchen looks really great. Good colour choice! And thank you for your comment re. my picture...much much appreciated. Hope you're having a nice weekend and get back into the 'old routine' ok next week!
Kerry.
I am so with you on the 6am thing -- my 2 are doing the exact same thing .. the eldest comes and sits on the floor beside my bed and just stares at me until I wake up whereas the youngest just yells ( can't get out of his cot ).. Love the colour in the kitchen, then again - love the kitchen :-)

The Queen must have been having an off day not to invite you in for a cuppa . Look forward to seeing the new fabric .
Sounds like a busy 2 weeks, the London trip sounds good...looking forward to seeing your fabric. I went 2 weeks ago & it still sat in the bag, need to give up work so I can complete my things to do list! :)
Glad you've had a good Easter break and a trip to London - yes, it's interesting watching the children go to a big city when they are so used to the countryside, isn't it! I think it does them good to see the hustle & bustle of city life though.
As for the early mornings with your little ones .... send them over to me! - I love to get up early (usually awake by 5.30 at this time of year!) I'll find them lots of jobs to do, teach them to make the perfect cup of tea, and you can have a lovely lie in!!
Willow xx
Children - don't you just love em! Early mornings have become the norm in our house, but I bet tomorrow I won't be able to get them out of bed for school!
Love the colour choice and I really like your clock.
x
I wouldn't mind getting up that early if only I could have a full nights sleep....one day maybe!
We went to see the Queen a couple of years ago and she didn't invite us in either so don't take offence 'hehe'!
You can come and do my painting if you want, every room needs doing but the ceilings are so high I can't face it!
Enjoy your last day of half term.
Take care
((hugs))

Yes it's fine to let children eat chocolate for breakfast, (lunch and dinnner) without being classed as a bad mummy! Well, I think so, anyway. We still have lots of Easter Eggs left, they keep apprearing with people we have not seen since before Easter. Eeek.
Love the decorating, now I have finished the hall, I fancy making a start on the bedrooms but hubby is not so keen. Boo!
oh how I long for teenagers who will lie in bed and let me sleep in......... and I am so with dottycookie - why oh why do they not get out of bed on school days......
oh and I love chocolate for breakfast!
Glad you enjoyed your Easter, we too had abusy one fun games and laughter, poor Miss. Bloggy feels all abandoned ;) So I shall do alittle post and hopefully sha shall feel a little better :)
Love to you and the children

Glad you had a good easter. Well done on painting. My paint has gone all shabby chic with all the visitors that have been traipsing in and out. Need to paint and get carpets cleaned!
Have a happy week!
Love Emma xxxxx
I really like the new shade of your kitchen - I think it looks great. I popped into CK at Bicester at the weekend, the new bigger shop is so lovely!
I'm still trying to get through our Easter chocolates, so nice and so bad!
x
There's nothing wrong with chocolate for breakfast - how on earth would you get them to eat anythign else when faced with all that chocolate??
I had no idea that there was a CK at Bicester, when we lived in Brackley the outlet there was a regular haunt for Monsoon. I do miss it!
Kimxx
Hi Lesley, thanks 4 the layout tip, all OK now, :O) don't worry about your chocolate eating - the calories don't count if...A)It's someone else's egg or B) No-one saw you eating it! SueX
Ooooh, you are sooooo bad Leslie, what a lovely website. Such a bad influence 'hehe'!

Hello you
Thought you would of been round with your paintbrush by now!
You didn't mention if you wanted to take part in the swap, do I presume correctly that because you left a comment you want to?

Completely with you on the early mornings - Little Lady here is doing a very early turn at the moment and I am NOT liking it one little bit.
Chocolate is however, I've found a medicinal cure for the early morning blues. So I've been prescribing myself lots. Works for me!
Looking forward to seeing the CK goodies. xx
I'm not sure it's wanted, but your post did make me laugh out loud. Love the idea of the kids rooms being so dark they are like tombs, and of you struggling on the steps of the monument - I don't think I could even attempt that climb now! So well done.
The kitchen looks good to me. xxx
Hi Lesley - Thanks, its nice to get back... Mmmmmm youv've had a busy few weeks - love the feature wall, and glad you survived London. I grew up in Romford, so had lots of school trips there as a child, Dad worked there, so we would go & watch the Lord Mayors parade from his office - V. exciting when you are in single figures. I looked like a ribena berry after walking uo the bunker steps on holiday... Off now to get my jaw wired together.....
Lxx
It really is so beautiful and like you say very special, thank you for your lovely comments on my skip finds and have a lovely weekend :)

Aaaarrrgghhh, you came to London and I wasn't here? Will I ever forgive you? Only if you come again when I AM here!!! Good to catch up with what you've been up to.

And reads our blogs ;)

Hey you didn't have to remove it, I thought was really funny ;)
So what anyway, we wernt sure were we ;) So are they like £15.00 odd now, must have guessed that we knew as I went back for Claires didn't I

Your kitchen looks gorgeous!
It sounds like you had a fab day in London, I love going too London.
I get my own back on the boys as they would stay in bed until lunch time if they had their own way, after all those early mornings they gave me; I pull the blinds up and even get cold water too put on them if I feel like being really cruel.
I will do you an email about your garden, but I have to say what I have seen of it looks lovely.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend…love Lou xxx
The kitchen looks very, very stylish, like something out of a magazine, I love the colour, looks very similar to a colour we have in one of the rooms in our house.
You sound like a very good Mummy, being woken at that hour might more than wear my patience!
Love Vanessa xxx (do you mind if i knit)
I do believe I was able to sleep in again when my children reached 6and 8 years old. It seems a long time ago now, but I do remember the nights of little sleep. Not fond memories of mine. Sounds like you had a wonderful trip to London, can't wait to see the new fabric. Have a great day! Liz
What a lovely kitchen! Having one big enough for a sofa is an unfulfilled ambition for me...v envious!
My kids are sharing a room at the moment (because we're storing everything in my son's room during the building work) and my son gets his sister up at 6 every day without fail. They both have blackout blinds, but they've never worked on him. I am so looking forward to their teenage years - like you I'm going to be in their rooms at 7 clashing a pair of cymbals and suggesting we all go out for a lovely bracing walk 'en famille'. Revenge will be very, very sweet!
Gxx
Hi hun, I have thought of some ideas for your garden so I will send you an email sometime over the weekend.
It’s a shame you don’t live nearer it might help me if I could sit in your garden with a glass of wine, only to help with ideas of course. ;0)
Have a lovely weekend…love Lou xxx

Love the paint job. You know by now I am a paintaholic.....emm!
I hate the early starts too, by
9pm I am done in much to hubs annoyance. And as for choccy, I am going to confess to you alone...lol.. that I have just eaten one of the boys Easter Eggs! yes I am bad...but I hid the wrapping so does it still count? I have half a stone left over from my holiday, just cannot get the mood right to shift it.
I have your lovely heart in the camper, will show you soon.
