Well hello blogland how are we doing? good I hope! me? well I was hit by the dreaded swine flu and I have never been so ill in my life!! it was horrendous and I ended up in an ambulance and on drips and all sorts and feel like I have lost most of July in a haze of aches, pains and general flueyness!! The NHS gets a bad deal sometimes but I have to admit to being dealt with fantastically although was a bit disappointed that A&E is nothing like Casualty on the television on at Saturday night :-)
I am very much on the mend though after a forced week of confinement and even managed a little trip to London this week that hubby very kindly sent me off to knowing a little break would do me the world of good ! The best therapy was spending time in Hen's den :-) What a lovely, creative, eye candy space to be in!!! Thank you Hen for a fab time!
Of course for a lot of people it is the (insert fanfare and/or doom and gloom type music here) Last Day of Term..... meaning 6 weeks of lovely, quality time with the two little darlings in my life........... OR 6 weeks of using every possible negotiating, management & organisation skill that I possess to stop them killing each other or me spontaneously combusting from the sheer stress of it all!!! I will hold my hands up now and admit to not being one who looks forward to the holidays but then I do enjoy the freedom of no school run and taking each day as it comes and usually find that we get to the end of the summer holidays and I look back thinking how fast it went by and how it was actually quite pleasant the majority of the time! any ideas/hints of things to do to keep the peace would be gratefully received :-)
I remembered this year to take their pictures this morning as I usually do the first day of each school year but its nice to see the difference at the end as well - Mia will be starting Juniors in September which seems baffling to me who thinks she should still be in Year 1 and Jacob will be going into Year 1 having had a difficult time at some stages during his first year but I wont go into the whole debate about the fact he started school a week after his 4th birthday and that's far to young , yadda, yadda...... Some of the new starters are actually 5 just a week or so after him but only start in reception this time and he will be in Year 1 ! I can't help but still a bit bothered by it all .......

anyway! got myself a little project to do next week whilst the children will be playing quietly and amusing themselves with fun but educational type past-times whilst I smile down at them lovingly with a satisfied feeling of contentment............ okay that's never going to happen but I did buy this mini sewing chest and have plans for a makeover so will hopefully have something to show you soon!

I have my last hour of freedom now after a lovely meet up with friends this morning and then enjoying the lovely sparkly cupcake in the top pic to give me the energy to deal with the weeks ahead.... something tells me I may need more of them though............
bye for now

how awful that you've been ill.. glad to hear your feeling better. must have been a scary time
big hugs for the summer holidays aswell!!!!!!
oh poor you, I hope you are feeling oh so much better, I prescribe a lovely quiet summer holiday, with long days spent in the garden with children playing happily, well we can dream xox
we made a list last year of fun stuff, and tried to pick a few things each day, making rocks buns and eating them whilst hidden under a blanket on the climbing frame seemed to be the biggest success x
Hope you are feeling better now. How so scary for you and your family. My next doors little boy has had it too over the past week or so. Its a very worrying time. But he is better now.
Yes summer holiday time. I cant wait for Lala to finish and that not until next Friday. And although DH has two weeks off with us thats not until the end of August. So three weeks of planning then! yeah right. I have a few ideas. And I know there will be days when I will be like god roll on September. As not only will Lala be back to school but Boo Bear will start nursery. Although come September i am sure I will be singing a different tune!
Take care

Nice to see photos of the mini-people. Jacob looks very little, cute! I don't think I've seen Mia before, either. I (well, Harry) still have three school days left to go so am quietly celebrating those and telling myself over and over that 6 and a half weeks will go REALLY quickly with no tantrums, of course. Hankering after one of those cupcakes, having eaten another 5 lbs of cherries so far today! Looking forward to the sewing box makeover reveal...
Have a fabby weekend, all of you.

I know how you feel about the hols - I am just a weeney bit terrified at the strentch ahead.
Lily's bday is 21st August - so she was a youngy too - she will be in year 2 next term and to be honest I don'tthink she has caught up - it's a worry, but she is happy and I am sure by year 5 she will be fine!!!

6 wks is a lllooonnnnggggggggggggg time.....but have fun.....I'll come up and join you soon!xxx
Your kids are gorgeous! I am absolutely dreading six whole weeks of nonstop kids, although for some weird reason preschool breaks up next Thursday instead of this week? Not complaining!
You poor thing being so ill, that sounds terrifying. Hope you'll be completely back to normal soon.
Glad you liked my pics! Mum bought the pin the tail on the monkey but I think it was from Tesco. It came with blindfold and stickers, I was really impressed with it because we all had a giggle.

Oh my, I am glad you are better! What a nasty bug to have caught.
Aah, your li'l ones are gorgeous, I hope they have a great school year ahead of them. Although I still can't get my head around the UK system where the school year is different to the calender year.. confusing!
Glad to have you back, have fun with your sewing box!

Oh dear, a few people on here have come down with swine flu and your bout sounds horrendous... hope you are back to full steam soon.
Jamie has 3 more days of school... mind you a local comprehensive has closed early as they have 4 cases of flu and the Headmaster has it too.
I love those canterlever sewing boxes, I almost bought one off ebay but for some reason I didn't... just didn't have the right feel... I know wierd! lol
take care
big hugs

So pleased that you have recovered.
I had a sewing box like that one many moons ago! cannot wait to see what you do with it.
I love the heart that you sent me, every time I look at it I think of you.
Enjoy your summer hols with your family.

Poor poor you, so glad your better now!!
Your little ones are so cute!! have a great summer!!xx
Eeek oh-dear Lesley, poor you! You must have been proper poorly! Hope you are feeling better now... Did you get a Dr McDreamy I wonder?! The 8year old is obsessed with swine flu - his 'enquiring mind' is driving me loop-the-loop - He wants to know if it'll be like the Eyam plague & if we will have to wear long pointy masks... Glad to see you better, blogging again & bonding with Hen. Looks like your excited about the 6 week hols - look out for an 8 year old in the post - he can come for a first hand explanation of swine flu!
Take good care of yourself
Hugs

Oh my goodness, how terrible that you have been so ill, but thankfully you are much better now?
Sending you lots of hugs!
The whole school debate is an ongoing battle, from what I can gather, and it is what I based my dissertation on last summer for my degree. My son will be seven on 8th September, and he is the oldest in his class, yet baby girl (STILL yet to be born!) will be one of the youngest in her class....as we approach the end of July. B started school five days before his 5th birthday and baby girl will only just be four, well four and two months. I expect from what you've said, your little ones' birthday is in August?
Truth is, it ISN'T fair that all the children in the class are expected to reach the same standards in all subjects, when some are nearly a year younger/older than the others in the class. This was the point my dissertation made!
Anyway, enough rambling from me....xx
Poor you, that sounds really bad - glad you're feeling better now.
Good luck for the holidays, hope the weather picks up :)
So glad you're all better now..you poor thing...dreadful...you were poorly forever, I missed you in blogland, you were AWOL for far too long!!
Can't belive how much Jacob looks like you! Quite agree, FAR too young to be starting school! We have the choice to defer the start date until next January if we feel they are not ready/too young etc etc...maybe I shall think about this for next year with B, but I'm sure she'll be chomping at the bit to go to big school with her sister!! I, of course will be beside myself with worry......

P.S How are the Tomatoes coming along...? ;-)
Poor you, you're the first person I know to have suffered so far, I'm sure there are going to be many more!
As you know I'm totally with you on the school starting age in this country, what are we doing to our babies?
Similarly I'm looking forward to the lack of routine but also feel some trepidation at the thought of 6 long weeks to fill without either of them killing the other!
Happy holidays
Julia xx
Glad you're on the mend Lesley. Hope you're feeling much stronger as it sounds like you were completely wiped out. Bet you will be after six weeks of joy. We've got seven here as term starts a week later in Norfolk.
I think it's the thought of your normal life stopping for so long that's daunting. I find myself arranging days out with people I normally wouldn't see so the kids play with their friends. What we do as mums hey.

Glad you are feeling much better. Go away horrid swine flu. At least you know you will never get it again now, while the rest of us wait with baited breath to see if we get it!
I think the NHS should prescribe sparkly pink cupcakes to everyone. Perfect medicine! x
Hi hun!
cheers...I'd totally forgot its name! LOL!
The room looks fab.....love what she did with it! its a good big wall and that paer looks good, not sure my much smaller bedroom would do it justice, plus, I think Its a step too far with Olly..bless him!
When are you free next..?
I'd love to meet up..
Love Melxxxx
How awful! Glad to hear you're on the mend now. The school holidays are a bit of a relief for me as Miss Muffett is at home to give me a hand with Nipper! I've been having the school debate with Mr Earplugs. He thinks Nipper should go next year but he'll only just be past 4 and I think it's too young.
